Andre Guichard (b. 1966)
Self-taught artist Andre Guichard was born in Chicago. He is a curator and, since 2005, co-owner of Gallery Guichard Fine Art Gallery in Chicago. Guichard had the privilege of being exposed to art through the eyes of his father, a painter, during Andre’s childhood. His cousin, the late great outsider artist William Dawson, was also an inspiration and artistic influence. Guichard has been painting professionally for 20 years. His works can be found in over 2000 corporate and private collections, including that of Patti Labelle, Phylicia Rashad and Steve Stout. Guichard was the National Curator for the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series between 2010 and 2013. His art is included in several publications, including African Art: The Diaspora and Beyond: The Daniel Texidor Parker Collection by Daniel T. Parker and Unveiled by Will Downing. He attended Illinois State University in the Department of Business and Economics.
I take life experiences and breathe life into them on canvas. I am a process painter who creates textured canvas sculptures with lots of color, movement and energy. I try to create works that touch the soul by reflecting on my own heartfelt experiences and passions. I work in acrylic, oil and mixed media on canvas, wood and paper.
