Miguel Angel Gomez was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on December 24, 1906. Gomez studied lithography at the Guyayas Philanthropic Society of Guayaquil. He worked for 36 years as a cartoonist for El Universidad in Ecuador. He appears to have moved to southern California in about 1980 and died in Burbank on January 9, 1994. He often signed his paintings and cartoons with the pseudonym, “Montanola” and is sometimes listed as Miguel Angel Gomez Cruz.
